Curriculum Update

> Update: December 2008 – February 2009 Year 6 are doing very well and we hope they are having an exciting and challenging year. Year 6 have settle down well and are working hard in preparation for their SATs in May. GCSE Science Year 6 have been doing practical work on Solutions and have recently extracted salt from Rock, using Dissolving, Filtering and Evaporating. Year 7 have been working on Acids and Alkalis and Particles. Year 8 have completed a topic on Food and Digestion, which culminated in an cross curricular essay on “a PFC Chicken Burgers journey through the Digestive System”. Green Champions Award to Tawhid

> Update: March 2008 Year 6 have successfully completed the London Schools Environment Award (LSEA) challenge this term and achieved the Green Champions award for the school. They have worked extensively hard with Hackney Eco Active team and Brother Anwar Lohyia, consultant to Hackney in preparing for the award. Year 6 were awarded their certificates and prizes by Anna Portch, Hackney Waste and Recycling Education Officer, at a ceremony held at the school on March 5th 2008. Year 6 gave an exciting presentation on reusing and recycling which will form part of their portfolio of work to be presented for the LSEA later in the summer. > Update: February 2008 This half term Y8 have been introduced to canoeing at Leaside Centre in Springhill. The activity has been a major success and pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the new experience. The activity secured part funding from Leyton Orient Community Sports Project (LOCSP). We would like to thank Sabir Bham, Senior Community Development Officer at LOCSP and his colleagues for the partnership and taking on this new initiative with Tawhid. School Curriculum Review

> Update: February 2008 The School has been reviewing its Key Stage 3 & 4 curriculum over the last 2 terms inline with the New National Curriculum due to be phased in over the next 3 years starting from September 2008. Consultation has been on-going with Management and pupils to ensure the curriculum is designed to promote the school Ethos and achieve its aims and objectives. The new curriculum will concentrate on delivering the Every Child Matters Agenda and promote further that pupils become successful & confident learners developing responsible citizens for the future. Emphasis is on engaging, motivating and catering for a variety of learning styles including visual, audio and kinaesthetic activities. The school is planning to develop new resources and ICT facilities to implement the new curriculum. > Update: November 2007 The GCSE Certificate Presentation Evening took place on the 9th November 2007. Pupils were awarded their certificates and a memoir from the school. Brother Ibrahim Hewitt, Headteacher Al-Aqsa Primary School, Leicester, was the guest of honour at the presentation ceremony. Allhamdoulillah, we have achieved excellent GCSE results this summer. School Travel Plan

> Update: October 2007 In the Name of Allah the Most Compassionate the Most Merciful Alhamdoulillah, Tawhid was one of the two schools in Hackney to achieve a Sustainable Award from Transport for London (TfL) for its achievement to promote sustainable transport. This is a major achievement and would not have been possible without the contribution from pupils, parents, staff and the School Travel Group. We would also like to thank Hackney Travel Plan Advisors, Helen Griffen, Amanda Cooper and Alix Stredwick for their hard work and continuous support.
