Year 8 attended an exploratory visit to investigate Maps and its purpose in real life. They looked at a range of maps old and new to identify why so many versions and different formats are created. They learnt about who, why and for what reason maps are drawn, navigation and drawing samples of maps, significance of landmarks, practice 3D and 2D perspectives to help them visualise views on maps. They also learnt about why maps need to be updated and saw the real version of the ‘Big Book Atlas”, over 6ft tall, dated 1660 which was the worlds largest atlas until 2012. They also looked at the smallest map in the world which was an atlas of the British Empire.
