Our Year 11 pupils enjoyed an interesting and fun packed day at the Sky Academy Careers lab at the Sky Studios HQ, based just on the outskirts of London. This trip enabled pupils to explore their personal skills and put their business acumen into practice. Pupils were split up into smaller groups and teamed up with another local college to complete group tasks throughout the day. The venue was only a minutes’ walk away from the Sky Sports studios!
Sky Academy Careers Lab is a full-day careers experience, which gave our pupils the chance to take part in practical work place challenges and learn about careers in media, business and technology. On arrival, each pupil was given a tablet device on loan for the day. The Sky Academy Careers Lab app guided them through the day, starting with a short self-reflection exercise to help them evaluate their own skills and interests. Pupils used realistic Sky insights to create a strategy and marketing plan in their groups, for a new idea in one of Sky’s many business areas including Product Design, Customer Service, Sky Retail and Sky Movies.
As well as engaging in these fun Business and Careers related exercises, pupils were also given an exclusive tour around the Sky Sports studios, in which they caught a glimpse of world famous international ex-Footballer Thierry Henry, who was busy in the studios working on his pundit role for Sky, preparing for the evening game between Liverpool v Manchester United. Pupils also explored the range of camera and recording equipments used within the studios and had the opportunity to visit the ‘live sets’ of Match of the Day and English Football League.
Overall, it was an exciting experience for our pupils and no doubt, this trip enabled them to explore their Business skills and think more about their career prospects.
