This year’s tournament saw a record goal haul in the senior section with some high octane clashes with final scores that wouldn’t look out of place on a rugby pitch! The best of them was Hudeybiah’s 6-5 beating of Tabuk, with 5 goals from the formidable Husnain Farakh standing in for injured Adam Tazi. The eventual, deserving winners were Khandaq for the second year running, topping the mini-league by the end of the tournament, with 7 points (2 wins and a draw). Runners up were Hudeybiah with 4 points (one win, one draw and a defeat) Badr were third and unbeaten on 3 points (3 draws) and Tabuk held up the mini-league with a single point (1 draw, 2 defeats) Special mention must be made of year 9 hero, Abdullah Lunat who, though one of the youngest competitors, finished the day as top scorer with 7 goals, ahead of team-mate Abdul Latif with 5. The other outstanding performer was Ali Sharif in year 9 for some highly impressive displays of dribbling, passing and finishing which left some feeling confident that he may even have a future in the game.
In the junior section, congratulations to Badr who had wrapped up their victory with a game to spare, meaning their heavy 0-6 defeat to Tabuk in the final game was futile, other than to confirm Tabuk as runners-up. The junior mini-league finished: 1st Badr, 6 pts, 2nd Tabuk, 5 pts, 3rd Khandaq, 4 pts, 4th, Hudeybiah 1 pt. The top scorer was Khalid Ali with 6 goals.
Storms and heavy showers were forecast, but Alhamdulillah, Allah (swa) kept the rain away and everyone had a fun and competitive day.
