The Curriculum

The broad and balanced curriculum at TBS aims to provide moral and academic excellence for all its pupils. The continuation and success of this depends on the contribution of staff, pupils and, parents.

As Muslim parents and carers, we need to be actively involved in the moral upbringing and academic achievements of our children, in accordance with Islamic principles. Pupils follow the National Curriculum subjects as well as Arabic language and Islamic Studies.

Students are taught in mixed ability groups and with work being differentiated to cater for all abilities. More able pupils have the opportunity to be entered for GCSE examinations earlier than Year 11 allowing them to concentrate on fewer subjects in their final year. Additional subjects may also be offered on a one year course.

Classes are smaller than state schools allowing more time for one to one teaching. After school and Saturday booster classes are time-tabled for ten weeks, prior to the SAT’s in English, Maths, and Science. Additional GCSE revision and booster classes are provided in Year 11.

Special Educational Needs

Students experiencing learning difficulties are catered for by Special Education Needs (SEN) provision. An Individual Education Plan is formulated for the pupil in question. Targets are set, and to be met by the SEN co-ordinator and parents working together. A review of the IEP will take place at the end of each school term.

Collective Worship

On Monday and Thursday mornings there is an assembly, which is based on a theme for the week. The school provides the opportunity for all pupils to perform congregational (Jamaat) Salaat. Prayer times are integrated within the school time-table. Daily assemblies with the Seerat of the Prophet and Stories of the Companions are given during Salaat time. On Friday, school finishes at 12.30 pm, allowing students to attend Salaat-ul-Jum’ua.

Physical Education

All pupils undertake Physical Education (P.E) throughout their school life. Activities have included: football, athletics, rugby, horse riding, cricket, tennis, swimming, badmington etc.

We at TBS try to encourage healthy eating by catering healthy lunches for students. Healthy eating can also help concentration.
